This class is aimed for both beginners and amateur painters that want to
get an insight in digital painting techniques, a fresh start into painting
without the hustle of mixing colors or to more experienced painters that want
to transfer their knowledge to a digital media.
During the 12 weeks you will be introduced to classical painting
approaches and techniques exploring digital tools as your medium.
Through this class we will dive deep into the painting fundamentals, design
composition, value structure & color, aiming to take advantage of our
digital tools to reinforce the painting process.
We will study from the grand masters, photography, films, still life,
models and nature learning to observe, interpret and simplify.
At the end of the 12 weeks, you will have a personal project and a solid
workflow you can rely on and transfer to any media.
If you are new to digital tools, I will give an introduction to Photoshop
focusing on the use of basic tools and keep it simple so we can focus on
painting. Further in the class I will talk about more advanced settings and
options that can enhance our creativity and improve the painting workflow.
This class will require at least 4 hours of homework time from one class to
another.
Materials to bring:
Laptop + drawing tablet or iPad + Pencil
Any painting software is good. I will do my demonstrations in Photoshop or HeavyPaint but the knowledge is transferable to any software.
You can bring a notepad, sketchbook and any other materials you find
useful.

Francisco de Olano Mauleón
Fran de Olano is from Argentina and works as a Visual Development Artist for film and series. He is educated in The Animation Workshop with a background in CGA. Currently he is a concept artist freelancer while in the past he has worked for companies such as Cartoon Saloon, Lightbox Animation, Boulder media, Bento box and Hydralab amongst others.
